About MeI have published feature articles in national and international publications
like IEEE Computer, ITWorld.com, HGTVPro.com, Data Center Management and many
more (see Writing Samples and a publications list linked on this site).
Before becoming a technology journalist, I served ISP and telecom customers at
CoreComm in Cleveland, OH. The CoreComm opportunity gave me experience with - Enterprise software installation and testing
and
- Triple-boot computer systems
On leaving CoreComm I started writing for trade magazines and continued
supporting my own SOHO as well as friends' home computers. This gave me
experience with - Researching, pitching story ideas, self-marketing and networking
- Conducting background research and locating and interviewing appropriate experts
and
- Writing, meeting deadlines, editing and proofing galleys
as well as - PC troubleshooting and hardware installation
and
- Mobile hardware and software testing
I have always enjoyed writing. Computers finally dragged me away from my
beginnings in social work and eventually introduced me to writing about
technology. I can say, though, that the experience and education I received in my former
work--I earned a BA in psychology in 1993--have proven useful in researching,
writing, persevering as a freelancer and relating to people. I have satisfied editors with articles that brought increased readership,
praise from all sides and repeat work. Here are comments from one of those editors: "David's great strength isn't in some aspect of his technical depth, but in his ability to understand that of his readership and adjust his writing to match. There are plenty of overly technical writers out there but just a small group of those able to transform the world of high technology into a set of paragraphs that take the reader on a journey--and give him or her an enjoyment of the trip at the end. David is just such a writer and that is precisely why he is starting his fourth year as a monthly columnist at SERVO Magazine." --Dan Danknick,
Former Technical Editor,
T&L Publications My network of contacts and opportunities
continues to flourish as I move ahead. There always seems to be some new writing gig waiting around the corner that's
bigger and better than I could have imagined. Great new customers, colleagues
and friends are waiting there, too. I'm excited, I'm ready and I'm grateful.
Thanks you, everyone. |
