Welcome!
Over time, Internet security threats evolve and worsen or are replaced by others that are more insidious. The best security software also gets better or worse and may be replaced by better products.
SpyBot S&D, for example, went down the ladder because it was no longer frequently and sufficiently updated and maintained. SpySweeper went up the ladder because it is both regularly updated and, to my knowledge, currently guards against the greatest number of threats.
Zone Alarm and AVG both improved to maintain their status (in my opinion) while new comers have shot to the top of the list of popular products.
So, it is wise to stay abreast of the best security products as well as to continually assess whether the products you use are still doing you justice against the onslaught of malicious, inbred malware hybrids.
To that end, I have first provided the link above with my recommendations for reliable reviews of many security products.
Second, here's my two cents on a few products, as well.
One new comer (that in my opinion may well push out SpySweeper) is Prevx1 (http://www.prevx.com), which I discovered through an email newsletter called Gizmo Richards' Tech Support Alert (http://www.techsupportalert.com).
Prevx1 does an awesome job at catching Spyware and Malware that your ordinary AV client and even SpySweeper (in one case I experienced) may miss. At the time I tested it, you got a free trial for a month and then had to pay a modest fee to keep it.
Another (also recommended by Richards' list) is NOD32, which takes care of viruses, malware and many spyware bugs, as well. It's at http://www.eset.com/.
PS--I gladly recommend Gizmo Richards' list without compensation. The paid version (only $10 a year) is great for those who really want to know their tech support stuff for their own benefit or that of others.Best Regards,
