Wireless charging not all it's cracked up to be

Welcome!

I got a big whoopie notice that a new technology coming out in 2007 will allow wireless charging of mobile devices. I thought that meant, carry the charger with you anywhere and without having to do anything but have it and your devices on, it would charge your devices--no having to have them in closer proximity to each other than on your personal being.

Not so. The new wireless chargers charge wirelessly, but are stationed in your car, office or home. What difference is that going to make? If I can't charge wirelessly anywhere and everywhere, who cares?

For more on this news, follow CES 2007. But, there will probably be technological innovations and new products of much greater interest than this one at CES.

Best Regards,
David Geer - your on time technology writer!

you only need one charger to charge all your wireless bits. not one for your phone one for your lappy one for your pda one for you... you get where im goin? my a to b?

I still expected it to be a charger a person could carry on their person seamlessly AND that it would keep the devices all charged constantly and automatically by sending the recharging to the devices via wireless signal. That way you don't have to do anything to charge anything but carry the extra device with you and turn them on when you want to charge. The way the press release was written, it sounded a lot more like this than just a one-size-fits-all charger that you have to plug into your car or something. What's so special about that? And who couldn't have told you that was coming? I'd have thought it was already out if you had asked me beforehand.
