Welcome!
Here's one. Right click on My Computer, left click on Properties and go to the Advanced tab. There, click on Settings under Performance. Use your cursor arrow to place the radio button dot in the hole next to "Adjust for best performance". Click Apply and then click the Advanced tab.
Under Advanced, click the Change button under Virtual memory. Make sure the Custom size, Initial size number is well over 200MB (mine is set at 576MB using a 16GB hard drive with about 7GB of free space). This is hard drive memory that your computer treats as RAM memory (the memory your currently opened programs are actually working in).
This is one of many places on XP you can visit to change settings and speed things up.
A primary source of faster performance is your System Tools. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and check out Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter if you're not already familiar with these applications.
A management note: if there are computer tips you need in particular, go to my Geer Communications site linked here and e-mail me with the subject line: Questions for David Geer Talks Tech. I will be happy to write a blog resolving your dilemma.
