'Need more desktop space?

Under Windows, right click the desktop and left click on Properties. Select the Appearance tab. Click on the Advanced button. My system is XP. Under Item select Icon.

Now, adjust the size of the desktop icons down using the up/down arrow buttons to the right of the current icon size number. Click OK, then Apply and OK to see the decrease in icon size. Adjust the icon size to your liking.

Once you have adjusted the icon size down (or up if you prefer) you can go into the desktop properties, appearance and advanced again and set the distance icons are from each other vertically and horizontally to save more space.

Under Item, select Icon Spacing Horizontal. Change the spacing size at right and click Ok and Apply and OK to see the changes. Go back in to adjust to your liking. Do likewise under Item for Icon Spacing Vertical to adjust vertical spacing to your needs.
