Welcome!
How much can one person know about technology?
There are a million stars in the sky but we live on one gravity-laden clump of mud. There are billions of people on this clump, yet in a lifetime I will see relatively few of them, meet even less of them, socialize with a fragment and draw close to a handful.
Today's technological subject matter with subordinate topics, facts, discoveries and hypotheses is an endless solar system of information, a vast population of knowledge. Take today's greatest mind in one field, say the study of astrophysics (OK, so it's more a science than a technology - bear with, bear with), and scurry her or him off to the other end of the solar system, say to writing encryption algorithms and see what the expert's chances of survival are in that world.
Everyone is a novice about something. It shouldn't keep you from learning. Then again, in some cases, keep you from learning is exactly what it may do.
You see, technology writers, me anyway, have to cover a broad arena of information. In many if not most instances, I am not an expert in the area I am covering before I get the assignment. I have three weeks to become acclimated in order to write the article or feature with competence. If I cover the same topic repeatedly and it is of special interest to me, then I may become somewhat of a permanent expert.
Once you know what others don't know, it makes it easier to admit what you don't know. I write this in hopes that you will feel welcome to enjoy this blog, comment and question away on things you don't understand. I'm sure I will get my turn, too. Don't worry about looking stupid, I've been there and will have my turn again I'm sure.
Gear up and get ready. Soon we'll be discussing lively technical topics, perhaps from the Web, Google (or are they the same thing these days?), the news, current events, or my technical articles, experiences, mishaps and successes, or even yours.
Stay tuned. It's coming as quickly as my next blog.
Best Regards,
