Welcome!
This is the premiere post at geercom.blogspot.com: GeerCom.com - David Geer Talks Tech.
We will address technology for the layman, the acclimated and those bearded ones that sit upon the mountain top, of which I am certainly not one ... yet.
For the wondering many, I am a technology writer ... er, no, uh, a technical journalist ... uh, not crazy about the word journalist ... I write things about technology and people publish them and I get paid ... yeah, I get paid! ... and while some still wonder how I ever got into this business, others wonder why I have not yet been kicked out.
Well, Geer is my name and bull-headed perseverance is my game (darn, not one paragraph into this and I'm jonesing for the spell checker).
As you can see, the fetters of respectable journalism will be loosened ever so slightly here. No cursing please. In addition, I own Geer Communications and so I won't later be hearing from my boss about how I have to take back what I say here.
I may print something in error from time to time. How can that be? I don't know everything, that's how. But, with your help, this should be a fruitful adventure filled with more discoveries than duds. Amen, brother.
On Blogging
At first I wondered, what in the world is everyone so excited about this blogging stuff for? From the reader's perspective (mine) it seemed an opportunity for a lot of folks who wanted to generate a lot of text really badly to generate a lot of text ... really badly.
And not get paid to boot. I may be a writer but I'm in business to make money. Politicians exist to acquire power, butchers cut meat (and in some cases my articles) and businesses exist to generate income.
So how is this blogging thing worthwhile?
Well ... to satisfy the necessary business driver, it appears that blogging can boost one's website traffic (Web site traffic to be absolutely correct). Now, as I pour out my heart with whatever I care to write, hardly editing a word for anyone but me, if that, I see the intangibles of this art. Saying what you really want to say. Stress relief. Just plain talking to people.
Ahhhhhh, I may like this after all!
Now, don't forget our purpose here. Don't let ME forget our purpose here. Talking tech to the high and humble whether of some matters I have published on or not, but it must be tech with few diversions, or else I will have to figure out how to moderate this thing, which I won't like, and I'll make you not like it with me, got it?
Well, I've said hello. Reciprocate in kind at your leisure. "Getting to know you. Getting to know all about you ... " (I occasionally wax eloquent in olden time song as well as outdated language, etc. You'll get used to it ... or leave.
Best Regards,
David Geer - your on time technology writer!
