Welcome!
This one is super simple! You want your computer to run faster. You may notice that in addition to running slower than you would like, you have a number of tiny icons in what is called your system tray, bottom right of your screen by the clock.
You may have other programs that start up when you boot the computer, but you don't see them because they run in the background, doing their thing without letting you know that they're there.
Here's how to stop at least some from starting up automatically.
Right click on the Start button, bottom left. Left click on Open in the menu that pops up. Open the programs folder, and then the Startup folder inside that. Each of these icons is a shortcut that starts up the associated program when you boot the computer.
You will need to make sure that you understand from your own experience or each of the program's software vendors what these programs do and whether you want or need them to start on boot up.
Once you are certain which ones you don't want starting every time, right click each shortcut in the Startup folder and left click on Delete in the menu that appears. Confirm that you want to delete it by clicking Yes on the new dialogue box (little window) that appears.
When you are done deleting each item you want to, you can close the Startup and Programs folders and reboot to see the results.
Conversely, if you want a new program to startup when you boot, you can place its shortcut in the same folder with a cut and paste routine. First, right click on the program's icon and left click on create shortcut. Confirm creation if needed. Cut the shortcut by right clicking on it and left clicking on Cut in the menu.
Now right click on a bare area inside the Startup folder and left click on Paste in the menu that appears. Close out the folders, reboot and your newly added shortcut will start the program automatically. Some people use it for their e-mail program or most frequently used software.
Best,
